No Book Left Unread

Cowpens Middle School will be participating in the No Book Left Unread summer reading program sponsored by the State Department of Education. This year, the program works in conjunction with the summer reading program sponsored by the public library.

How do I participate?
Just track the number of minutes that you read each day on your No Book Left Unread log, have your parent or guardian sign it, and return it to school when you start back in August.

Who will be involved?
All the students, staff, and teachers at Cowpens Middle. (Yes, even the teachers will be reading and logging in their time this summer!)

What is our goal?
If you log in 900 minutes, you'll be treated to an ice cream sundae when we come back to school. Our school goal for this summer is 68,000 minutes!

Important Change Regarding Vaccinations for Rising Seventh Graders (2010-2011)

The following is a message from DHEC about a revision in immunization requirements for the 2010-2011 school year.

A notice sent by the SC Department of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC) in early February 2010 indicated that students entering seventh grade next school year would need to have a Tdap immunization in order to attend school. Because of concerns about funding and difficulties that schools and parents may have with meeting the requirement, DHEC has decided to strongly recommend the Tdap immunization rather than to require it for school attendance at this time.

Tdap is a vaccine that protects against tetanus, diphtheria and pertussis (whooping cough). Children are immunized against these diseases early in life, but the protection decreases over time. In the United States there has been an increase in whooping cough. A booster dose of Tdap for middle school aged children will help protect against these three diseases for years to come.
